A three-dentist practice, Tarpon Shores Dental was named three separate times to the latest Top Dentists 2015 list. Tarpon Shores Dentals dentists, Dr. Shanaka Weerasooriya, DMD, Dr. R. Scott Thompson and Dr. C. Romesh Weerasooriya have all been awarded “Top Dentist” status on the list and featured in the April Edition of Sarasota Magazine.
Dr. Shanaka Weerasooriya was honored on the Top Dentist 2015 list. The award was given for his specialization in whole mouth health and restorative dentistry. He says, “When my patients see the transformation of their teeth after restoration and I see their smile light up their face, I’m energized and motivated to bring this powerful change into even more lives. I want everyone to have that kind of confidence!”
Dr. Shanaka Weerasooriya believes that the health of the oral system, which includes the teeth, gums, supporting bone, jaw joint, and muscles of the head and neck, plays an integral part in the overall systemic health of a patient. In addition to this focus on improving overall oral health and its connection to the health of the entire body, he has combined his artistic talents with state-of-the-art digital photography, to create “natural” smiles for his mature patients or “bright” smiles that are in style today for the esthetically-conscious patient.

Dr. Shanaka Weerasooriya has partnered with Dr. R. Scott Thompson and Dr. C. Romesh Weerasooriya in their group private practice, Tarpon Shores Dental. By partnering with each other, they are able to manage three locations and treat a wide range of dental needs throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties.
Dr. Shanaka achieved Mastery Level status in Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry from Dr. Frank Spear at the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education (now the Spear Institute). He is a graduate of the Schuster Center for Professional Development, a leadership and practice management program. He is a graduate of Implant Dentistry continuums at Implant Seminars and the Misch International Implant Institute to receive training in surgically placing dental implants.
He also holds memberships in the American Dental Association(ADA), Florida Dental Association (FDA), Sarasota County Dental Association (SCDA), Florida Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (FACD) and is a Fellow in the International College of Oral Implantologists (ICOI).
