Business Innovators Radio Show, a popular online newscast featuring business influencers sharing their success strategy, recently hosted well-known sports psychology, executive, and life coach Jay Hollingshed. Jay is also an effective public speaker on the subject of personal development, and passionate about helping others succeed in life. In a candid discussion with Business Innovators Radio Show host Alicia Dibrell, Jay spoke about his illustrious career and coaching techniques that have benefited many of his clients.
Jay Hollingshed’s journey towards becoming a development coach started about a decade ago when he started speaking and advocating on behalf of the United Way of the Mid-south. However, he started marketing himself as a public speaker and life coach much later in 2015. At present Jay helps athletes, organizations, and individuals seeking psychological growth to develop and maximize their performance.
During the interview, Jay revealed that his coaching process involves making his clients aware of how their productivity can be improved by adding a psychological approach to their efforts. As the mental coach, he offers a series of sessions by listening and suggesting methods to remove obstacles and gain clarity towards an improved performance.
Highlighting his role as a sports psychology coach, Jay Hollingshed stated, “I educate my athletic audience on how psychological skills affect athletic performance and development. I offer stress performance analysis for athletes and coaches. I offer mental performance curriculum development, and that would-be athlete and program specific, based on their specific needs. ”
Jay educates his clients on pre and post injury psychology. His pre-injury psychology guidance addresses the possibility of key player injuries, and preparing the team to overcome the adverse mindset created by the negative attention that comes from the injury to a key player. He also educates the post-injury clients by maintaining and elevating the mindset of the players for a positive recovery progression and performance enhancement through goal setting, motivation, and imagery.
Jay also works with athletes that are transitioning from their playing career to becoming an entrepreneur. He considers it extremely important for any athlete to plan early to make this transition a smooth and successful one. Jay advises them to utilize the off season to plan ahead for the life that will exist for them after professional sports.
Jay feels that it’s important for an athlete to engage a coach before working towards this change. “They have money and they can go out and buy a business. That’s no problem. The thing is, buying a business is not like buying a car that you can wash and wax and put in the garage. Buying a business takes maintenance and it takes know-how. You have to understand the business and you have to keep the business. It’s totally different from keeping a car and putting it in a garage. I believe it’s important to help an athlete,” he said.
