McLeod County DFL (Minnesota) Celebrates Earth Day With Bi-Annual Road Clean-up

The McLeod County DFL (Democratic—Farmer—Labor Party) celebrated Earth Day by spending Saturday, April 23rd cleaning up their approximately 3 mile stretch of highway near Stewart, MN that was adopted as part of the Adopt-a-Highway program. The group has sponsored this section of highway since 2004.

Kristina Jacobs (Lester Prairie/Bergen Township), a new member of the DFL Board of Directors this year, attended the road clean up with her 13-year-old son, Orion Blasen. Jacobs says, “It was our first road clean up and my son was having a great time picking up garbage along the highway. It was a beautiful day and we were followed for a while by a bald eagle sitting high up in the trees watching us.” The pair worked together along a stretch finding some interesting items along the way such as lost winter gloves, unused dryer sheets, tons of open and unopened mayo and mustard packets and an entire headlight and turn signal assembly with the matching turn signal found on the other side of the road.

Afterward, the group joined together at Cactus Jacks II located in Stewart, MN for lunch and conversation. Another new Board Member, Lincoln Benton (Hutchinson) attended with his family and 14-year-old son Patrick. Benton says, “I feel it is important to take actions that match your beliefs. If you care about the environment, don’t just say it, get out there and do something!”

The next meeting of the McLeod County DFL Executive Board of Directors is scheduled for Saturday May 14, 2016 at the Hutchinson Public Library (Hutchinson, MN) in the Conference room at 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend or may provide input to the board members.
