Frequent Boil Water Directives in South Florida Municiple Water Supplies Have Many Consumers Installing UV Water Filtration

Once again the calls went out, another Boil Water Advisory went into effect. This time the affected water supply included the Palm Beach International Airport and homes and businesses in the surrounding area. Fecal coliform bacteria were found in this area of the water distribution system on May 13th, according to officials. This bacteria can make you sick, and are a particular concern for people with weakened immune systems. Fecal coliform is a bacterium in the water indicates that the water may be contaminated with fecal matter from either human or animal. Microbes in this contamination can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They also elevate health risk for infants, young children, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

Adam Swicicki operating partner of The Water Doctor and Suburban Water Filtration in South Florida had this to say, “The water we drink and bathe in daily needs to be safe. We have been in business in South Florida since 1965 and when the quality of water provided to the public is contaminated even temporarily it is a major health issue. Our company provides the ultimate in drinking water filtration with a reverse osmosis filter followed by an ultra Violet light filter that can kill virtually all bacteria in your drinking water when properly set up.” Swicicki went on to say, “when you are in an area that puts out a boil water notice and you do not have a R/O , UV system in place, be sure you Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.” Local Public water officials echo Swicicki’s sentiments.
