Many people have heard of ThermiVa and that it is rapidly becoming one of the most popular procedures available for vaginal rejuvenation. But what does that mean exactly and what is the actual treatment? It seems every day there is a social media mention or a report on the subject as word about the procedure spreads.
Some reports of the benefits include remodeling of the vaginal tissue as collagen is stimulated and the tissue becomes thicker and tighter. Also improved muscle control to help with diminished urinary leaks and enhanced sexual pleasure with tightened tissue. Additionally, reports of more orgasms in clients with orgasmic dysfunctions, improved sensation and increased vaginal moisture. Although it is a new subject to most people, it has been studied since 2005
We asked Elizabeth Gallagher RN, MSN, FNP-BC to explain more about the procedure. Elizabeth is a nurse practitioner, with a focus on anti-aging, who educates across the country.
Elizabeth states, “ThermiVa is a warm thermal treatment delivered by an individual one-time patient specific wand for internal vaginal and external labia intimate areas.”
Using radio frequency energy, the tissue tightens for medical and cosmetic improvements. Many people think the procedure must be painful but Elizabeth states that most patients say that it is relaxing. She points out, “The tissue cannot be overheated or burned because the machine itself does not reach dangerous or ablative temperatures.”
Also it does not take long. The whole procedure takes about 30-45 minutes. There is no downtime or recovery period. Patients can have relations immediately post procedure.
Three treatments are recommended. They are generally scheduled one month apart. Then one treatment every 9 to 12 months is recommended. Results are seen after just one treatment. Costs can vary but are generally $1250 for one treatment or $3000 for three treatments.
Elizabeth’s exposure to the ThermiVa technology in her previous practice convinced her to explore further. “I became interested after selling my facial aesthetics practice and listening to physicians and providers rave about the amazing results and patient satisfaction. The “life changing” reports were consistent with every patient.
Ideal candidates are women who have had children by vaginal delivery, are experiencing urinary stress incontinence or leak when sneezing, coughing or laughing. Also those who are aging and have laxity in and out or who want to have more frequent and better orgasmic encounters and are experiencing vaginal dryness.
