Document Removal and Destruction is Easy With Paper Tiger Document Solutions

Paper Tiger Document Solutions has built a reputation for flexibility and customer service in handling document shredding, document destruction and document storage in the Chicagoland area. The Gurnee-based company is often called upon to handle situations that other companies can’t.

“We will pretty much go anywhere the client asks us to go. We’ll do just about anything within reason,” says Rich Martin, co-owner of Paper Tiger Document Solutions, who has been in the document solution business for 27 years.

A recent project for the Chicago Tribune demonstrates the company’s flexibility and creativity. The media company called Paper Tiger after another document company refused to handle the project from start to finish. The Tribune needed a multitude of shelved files removed, but the documents were housed up a series of stairs. Paper Tiger Document Solutions devised a creative solution of stuffing the documents in Totes and sliding the totes down the stairs.

The Tribune also had 2,000 boxes of files that needed to be removed from the lower level. This was difficult because the elevators were in use by employees all day. Paper Tiger’s solution was to start the job at 4 a.m. before the elevators got busy.

Martin says the Tribune was very satisfied with the document removal job. “So they just ended up loving that we were able to handle it quickly and efficiently and obviously went out of our way by going down there, sort of in the middle of the night, to take care of the project for them,” Martin says.

Another instance that shows the companies flexibility occurred with the recent flooding in the Chicago area. Paper Tiger was called upon numerous times to help with removal of paper stored in basements that had gotten wet and moldy. Martin points out that many document destruction companies are not able to deal with paper that is wet.

The company serves wide-ranging clients from large corporate clients to residential. “We have people that show up with just a box that they want to have shredded from their house all the way up to multinational companies with thousands of boxes. And we also have a lot of companies where we’re doing ongoing service,” Martin said.

Paper Tiger Document Solutions aims to make document removal easy for clients by handling the project from start to finish. While some companies expect the client to handle the first phase of document removal, by moving the documents from a basement or attic, for instance, Paper Tiger does it all. “We’ve got the manpower and the know how to take care of the entire process for them,” Martin said. “And a lot of times they come to us afterwards and they’re like ‘Oh, this is so much easier than I thought it was going to be. I really appreciate it. We’re going to tell everyone we know about you guys.’”

Martin started out in the storage business. He said many customers, after the life cycle of the paper being stored was over, wanted the paper destroyed. Martin said the business grew as concerns over identity theft grew and federal and state regulations increased. “So really we say we’re in the shredding business but we’re really in the security business,” says Martin. The company is N.A.I.D. (National Association of Information Destruction) AAA certified.

Martin says the company employees get a lot of satisfaction from a job well done. “We just take care of it and the customers are happy for it. We feel that it really works for us because then we get good referrals and a good reputation,” he said.
