The most recent recipient of this unique fundraiser was 6-year-old Hazel Crowfoot. Hazel was diagnosed with High Risk B-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of four. Now six, Hazel has just had her wish fulfilled by the Make-A-Wish foundation because of the sponsorship effort started by Erick McHenry and a group of other local Utah business owners. Hazel and her family were taken to Disney World for their special trip April 16th through the 22nd.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (also called acute lymphocytic leukemia, or ALL) in children is cancer of the blood that starts in the bone marrow and spreads to the bloodstream.
ALL is the most common children’s cancer, accounting for 25% of all cancers in children under the age of 15. There are over 3,000 new cases of ALL diagnosed in children and adolescents (0-19 years old) in the United States each year.
Erick McHenry stated, “We love our customers and we love the Make-A-Wish Foundation. We thought, ‘what better than to create an event than show our customers how much we care while simultaneously raising money to help make a little girl’s wish come true.’”
The event now known as the Sidewalk of Fire is the third largest fireworks show in the state of Utah and takes several months to plan and stage each year. The event will feature a forty thousand dollar fireworks display, food trucks, games, prizes, various vendors, sponsors a DJ and much more.
All the profits raised at the event by the vendors, sponsors and food trucks will be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and designated to make children’s wishes come true.
Fellow sponsor Tricia Ashby of Utah Move Real Estate was quoted as saying, “Sidewalk of Fire is a great way for us to say thank you to and connect with our clients. We love to show them how much we appreciate them, their business, and their referrals! The fact that this event also provides a way for our clients and the community to support the Make-A-Wish foundation is wonderful.”
The next event is on Saturday, June, 14th at Riverton Park, in Riverton Utah from 6pm to 11pm.
