Dr. Douglas Benting: A Serendipitous Calling To Create Beautiful And Functional Teeth

Before he became a dentist, Dr. Benting worked in a dental lab… He started out at the bottom rung of the ladder and did all the basics while in high school. Eventually, he learned the steps to making teeth which were both beautiful and functional. This serendipitous path led him into Dentistry, continuing on to pursue Prosthodontic specialty training as a career and a calling.

Dr. Benting completed a residency training program to become a Prosthodontist in 2002 after finishing dental school at the University of Minnesota in 1999. A Prosthodontist is an architect that not only designs the treatment to meet the needs of the patient, but is also responsible for completing the customized outcome required by the patients.  As a Prosthodontist, Dr. Benting takes pride in combining the science and understanding of biomaterials as well as the anatomic features of the joints and muscles of the head and neck in an effort to create durable and functional teeth whether for one tooth, several teeth or an entire arch of upper or lower teeth.

He moved from Minnesota to Phoenix in 2006 and a large percent of his patients see him for implant procedures to recreate healthy, functional and beautiful smiles. He says, “One of the fundamental things I believe when I am working with patients relates to the knowledge and training that a Prosthodontist can help apply to each patient’s unique situation. Specifically, when a patient comes to the office with a concern, I believe they are asking for help in making the best decision based on the options available for their mouth. Dentistry has taken huge leaps forward similar to medicine. Materials and techniques available today are very different in that they can be much more durable while at the same time handle light in a manner that creates a more natural and beautiful appearance.”

In a touching note about how Dr. Benting’s services changed his life, patient Phillip LeClaire writes, “Dr. Benting, you are a kind, caring, and gentle dental professional. You are ‘fussy’. You need to be personally satisfied with the appliances you create. Unlike other dentists I have seen, you listen to your patients, you want our opinions, you make us feel comfortable about asking questions, and do not take yourself seriously. I never felt rushed because you had to see another patient. Creating a prosthesis of any kind is an art form. In my book, Dr. Benting, you are an artist! Dr. Benting, I would recommend you to anyone who desires quality work in a caring and non-judgmental atmosphere.”
